Rep. Peterson Offers Amendment for CTE Increase
June 25, 2008
This week, the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Labor, HHS, and Education each marked up their versions of the FY 2009 Labor, HHS, and Education Appropriations bill. While full details and funding levels have not yet been made public, career technical education basic state grants appear to have been given an increase of approximately $2 million over FY 2008 in the House version of the bill. The Senate appears to have marked up the bill at FY 2008 levels. There is no word as of yet on Tech Prep funding.
Representative John Peterson (R-PA-5) will be proposing an amendment when the full House Appropriations Committee plans to markup their bill tomorrow morning that would provide a $51 million increase for career technical education basic state grants.
Action Alert: Please contact the members of the House Appropriations Committee and urge them to vote in favor of the Peterson amendment on career technical education funding. A full list of committee members and their contact information can be found at http://www.congress.org/congressorg/directory/committees.tt?commid=happr. Please make these calls as soon as possible, as the vote on the amendment is scheduled for Thursday morning at 10:00 am!
