Advance CTE Announces New Board Leadership

Silver Spring, MD – July 1, 2020 – Today, Advance CTE welcomes its 2020-2021 officers.

“I am thrilled to continue as Advance CTE’s Board President for a second term during this important time. The CTE community has faced unprecedented challenges over the past few months, but has come together to ensure that each student in the country has an opportunity to partake in a high-quality CTE program, no matter if it’s online or in person. State leaders have the task ahead of implementing their Perkins V state plans while also working across stakeholders to plan for reentry to schools and institutions in the fall. I know that we are up to the challenge and, with Advance CTE’s leadership, we will be supported in this effort. I look forward to doubling down on quality and equity over the next year in Colorado, and know that state CTE leaders will do the same,” said Sarah Heath, State CTE Director, Colorado Community College System.

In addition to Heath, officers include:

  • Vice President: Dr. Marcie Mack, State CTE Director, Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education;
  • Secretary/Treasurer: Ms. Laura Scheibe, Director of Career and Technical Education, South Dakota Department of Education; and
  • Past President: Ms. Bernadette Howard, State Director for Career Technical Education, University of Hawaii.

Newly elected and appointed board representatives include Donna Lewelling, Deputy Director, Office of Community Colleges and Workforce Development; Angel Malone, State Director for CTE, South Carolina Department of Education; Steve Playl, Senior Director, College & Career Experiences, Tennessee Department of Education; Luke Rhine, State Director for CTE, Delaware Department of Education and Cathie Raymond, State Director for CTE, Arizona Department of Education.

 “We are grateful for our Board of Directors’ expert counsel, time and leadership, ensuring that Advance CTE is focused on service to its members and leading the field of CTE. Working together, we will rise to the challenges before us, turning them into opportunities for growth and redoubling our efforts to ensure that equity and quality are at the heart of all the work we do,” said Kimberly Green, Executive Director of Advance CTE.
