Learning that Works Resource Center Provides Research, Policies and Tools for Career Technical Education Field

June 21, 2016 – Washington, D.C. – Today, Advance CTE and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) released the Learning that Works Resource Center compiling research, tools and polices around Career Technical Education (CTE) and career readiness.

The Resource Center is a curated set of materials developed through the New Skills for Youth initiative, a partnership of the JPMorgan Chase & Co., CCSSO, and Advance CTE that supports states as they work to align career-focused education with high-skill, high-demand jobs.

“The Learning that Works Resource Center spotlights research, reports, case studies and policies impacting CTE and career readiness,” said Kimberly Green, Advance CTE Executive Director. “As part of the New Skills for Youth Initiative, this Resource Center provides leaders in secondary and postsecondary education and workforce development with assets to benchmark, inform or guide their actions to increase access to and support for high-quality programs and effective policies that improve the career readiness of all learners.”

“New Skills for Youth builds on CCSSO’s Career Readiness Initiative, launched in 2015 to help close the skills gap in this country. This resource center is one way we are supporting all states to better prepare students for success in life,” said Chris Minnich, CCSSO Executive Director. “We are excited to watch this resource center grow as states pursue this important work.”

This Resource Center contains three types of materials:
  • Reports and case studies to offer data and/or research to inform readers about innovations and trends in career readiness strategies
  • Tools and guides to assist in the design and implementation of states’ career preparation systems.
  • Policies, including career readiness focused legislation, regulations and administrative actions, to provide models and promising practices to state leaders.
For a resource to be included, it must align with the six objectives of the New Skills for Youth initiative and the five principles of Putting Learner Success First: A Shared Vision for the Future of CTE; be high quality and promote equitable access to high-quality career pathways; and be actionable and offer clear utility for state and local leaders, with relevance in today’s policy environment.
