Strategies to Increase the Concentration of Students in Nontraditional Occupatoins

This report by the Wisconsin Technical College System explores areas of strength and opportunity for increasing the enrollment and retention of learners in nontraditional occupations (where 25 percent or less of the workforce is either male or female) across the WTCS and provides an analysis of and resources for best practices to improve NTO learner success. Key strategies recommended include:

  • Creating a NTO learner support networks
  • Having designated NTO staff to support NTO projects and learners
  • Leveraging NYO role models
  • Provide outreach to middle and high schools for NTO careers and opportunities

This report is accompanied by a NTO Programs: Scale of Adoption Assessment tool to assess the adoption of best practices for increasing the enrollment and retention of NTO learners.
