In 2014, the Tennessee State Board of Education adopted a new framework for work-based learning, providing guidelines and program expectations for schools, districts and worksite supervisors. This policy guide was developed by the Tennessee Department of Education to help schools and local districts understand and implement the new work-based learning framework. It sets a vision for work-based learning, describes the different types of work-based learning activities permitted in the state, and details state policies around implementation. While this guide is specific to Tennessee policy, it represents one of the most robust statewide frameworks for work-based learning in the U.S. and can be replicated and adapted in other states.
