Statement by Advance CTE on the American Families Plan

SILVER SPRING, MD (April 29, 2021) — This quote can be attributed to Kimberly Green, Executive Director of Advance CTE in response to the Biden administration’s announcement of the American Families Plan proposal:

“We are pleased that the American Families Plan places an emphasis on learner retention and completion in community colleges, which offer postsecondary Career Technical Education (CTE) to nearly four million learners nationwide. Many high-demand postsecondary CTE programs that lead to essential jobs have waiting lists; this proposal’s historic investment will help make those CTE programs more accessible for more learners and is a promising start to addressing systemic barriers for learners to access postsecondary education and pursue a high-skill, high-wage, in-demand career of their choice.

We applaud the proposal’s inclusion of tuition-free community college, an increase in Pell Grant awards and a focus on closing racial equity and representation gaps in instructor pipelines. The education investments proposed in the American Families Plan align well with Advance CTE’s vision for CTE , which calls for a career preparation ecosystem that empowers learners to navigate their own path to college and career success without limits.

We look forward to working with Congress as the legislative process as this proposal progresses.”
