Director of Communications and Membership

Steve leads the organization’s internal and external membership engagement, professional learning and strategic communications strategies. He oversees technical assistance, resource development and related supports for Advance CTE members, advances the organization’s strategic priorities and mission, and raises the visibility of and support for high-quality and equitable CTE throughout the country.

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Steve has worked in nonprofit and higher education communications for more than 20 years. He began his career working for National Public Radio and Paramount Global Entertainment before entering the organizational communications field. Steve then led fundraising communications for the Divinity School at Harvard University, spearheaded the rebranding of America’s Second Harvest to Feeding America in the late 2000s, and for a decade directed communications and operations for Aurora University, a thriving private college in the Chicago suburbs. Steve received undergraduate degrees in Mass Communication and Comparative Religion from Miami University (Ohio), and a master’s degree in the Sociology of Religion from the University of Chicago.
