“Advance CTE and ACTE applaud the Senate Appropriations Committee for advancing its federal fiscal year 2024 (FY24) Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS-ED) appropriations bill, which proposes a much-needed $40 million increased investment in the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act’s (Perkins V) basic state grant program. The measure was advanced out of committee yesterday on an overwhelmingly bipartisan basis.
Our organizations thank appropriations leaders in the Senate for their recognition of the vital importance and impact this investment has on millions of learners enrolled in Career Technical Education (CTE) programs throughout the country each year. This additional funding will provide more learners with equitable access to high-quality CTE programming and represents an important down payment on our nation’s skilled workforce needs. It will also help ensure CTE programs are able to impart essential skills and provide the supports necessary for learners to be successful in today’s economy.
This proposed increased investment will help CTE programs expand access to high-wage, in-demand career opportunities that are vital to building a sustainable, 21st-century workforce, and will help ensure employers are well-equipped to leverage recent federal investments in advanced manufacturing, technology and much more.
We urge lawmakers in the House and the Senate to enact this legislation as the FY24 process continues to move forward.”
