My name is Janeva Wilson, and I am thrilled to join Advance CTE as a policy associate. As part of the policy team, I’ll assist in implementing the National Career Clusters® Framework and researching and developing resources highlighting promising practices that support the implementation of high-quality CTE.
I was born and raised in North Carolina and received my bachelor’s in Psychology from Winston-Salem State University. My experiences as a student at an HBCU vastly shaped my desire to alleviate racial inequities in education. Working on a research project around teacher diversity heightened my interest in pursuing a career that could impact education systemically. After completing my undergraduate degree, I attended The University of Texas at Austin and received my master’s in Educational Policy and Planning. As a graduate student, I was involved in education coalitions in Texas striving to make curriculum and campus climate more diverse and inclusive. I also worked with a nonprofit focused on racial equity in education, where I supported a policy implementation strategy to combat education censorship.
Before joining Advance CTE, I worked with Education Strategy Group on a research project exploring how state leaders supported students in pathway persistence and completion. This endeavor was a formative part of my career trajectory, leading me to seek a job working to expand access to educational and career opportunities for all students. My personal and professional experiences have shaped my policy interests in race, equity, opportunity, and access. I am excited to continue my career in education policy working to support the mission and vision of Advance CTE.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading romance novels, traveling, and trying new restaurants.
