A successful career advising and development system must respond to learners’ interests and provide career awareness and exploration for all – not just those enrolled in career technical education (CTE). Such a system must seamlessly span the full career advising and development continuum from elementary through postsecondary and include wraparound services, accelerated learning strategies and connections with local employers to ensure smooth transitions into the labor market.

Lauren Jones is a nationally certified counselor and is in her ninth year as the Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program Director for Special Populations, Counseling and Equity in Colorado. In this role she serves school districts and postsecondary institutions by providing trainings and resources to support career literacy and meaningful career conversations. Lauren also began and coordinates the implementation of Middle School CTE programs and wears many other hats including: Project Manager for Equity in CTE, co-supervisor of Colorado’s statewide PWR/ICAP Facilitators, subject matter expert for equity in CTE with Advance CTE, and US Department of Education, Region V representative for ACTE Guidance & Career Development Division. She’s also one of the founding members for the CCCS Equity and Inclusivity Council and is a constant advocate for special populations and everything CTE in Colorado!
