A veteran of the United States Army, Raymond L. James currently serves as the Assistant Dean of Advanced Manufacturing and Transportation Technology at Greenville Technical College in Greenville, South Carolina. Raymond earned an associate degree in General Engineering Technology at Tri-County Technical College, a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Kaplan University, and a master’s degree in Higher Education from Purdue University Global.

To Increase the Retention Rate Among African American Men at Greenville Technical College by 15%

This project aims to increase the retention rate among African American males at Greenville Technical College by 15%. This goal will be met through connecting students participating in the African American Male Scholar Initiative (AAMSI) with mentors (African American professionals, GTCC faculty, and members of the community. The effectiveness of this mentorship program will be measured by an “outcome-based evaluation method”, and desired outcomes include a 15% increase in retention.

Advance CTE Fellows are gaining the skills and connections to pursue state leadership positions and advance high-quality, equitable state postsecondary CTE systems.
