Richard Crosby, a product of Career Technical Education, has over a decade of postsecondary instruction experience and currently serves as a drafting instructor at Trinity Valley Community College in the Correctional Education Division. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology and a master’s degree in Human Resource Development from the University of Texas at Tyler.

Barriers to Postsecondary Career Technical Education in Correctional Education: Removing Educational Assessment Scores as Entrance Criteria

This project aims to increase the access of justice-involved youth within the TDCJ to postsecondary CTE programs by removing the requirement of Educational Assessment (EA) scores. Surveys will be used to collect data on the role EA scores have in determining student acceptance into vocational programs. Postsecondary CTE enrollment data will also be analyzed to better understand the disparities created by this requirement. Desired outcomes of this project include an increased enrollment of justice-involved youth in postsecondary CTE programs, and provide technical assistance for new inmates to educate them on the significance of the EA and their career pathway options.
