Amy Miller

Amy Miller was appointed State Director of Career and Technical Education for South Dakota in September 2025. Bringing more than two decades of experience in Career and Technical Education to this leadership role. Since joining the Department of Education nearly 6 years prior as Deputy CTE Director, she has played a central role in advancing statewide initiatives that strengthen opportunities for students and schools alike. Her work has included the development of the South Dakota Statewide Perkins Consortia, significant CTE equipment grants to districts across the state, and the creation of the South Dakota CTSO Center, and in 2023, she was recognized with the Advance CTE Rising Star Award.

Amy has led the development and implementation of updated CTE content standards, as well as leading South Dakota’s rollout of a new career cluster framework. Her career began in the classroom, where she spent six years teaching Family and Consumer Sciences, followed by ten years as a secondary CTE Director and Assistant Principal. She earned Masters degrees in both CTE and Educational Leadership from South Dakota State University, along with a specialist degree from the University of South Dakota. These experiences continue to guide her dedication to helping students realize their potential, supporting educators in their professional growth, advancing what schools can achieve, fostering vibrant communities, and developing future leaders.
