About half of postsecondary certificates and degrees earned in the United States are awarded by community colleges. These institutions have become vital providers of education and training nationwide and serve diverse student bodies. But they have struggled with low completion rates, reduced public funding, and challenges aligning their academic programs to the needs of the labor market.
The Urban Institute has designed an interactive guide with strategies to support community colleges in changing how their institutions work to better serve their students and prepare them for the workforce. This guide for systems change focuses on three strategies: 1) Accelerating learning, 2) Improving persistence and completion and 3) Better connecting students to employment.
This guide is intended for community colleges interested in evaluating their systems and changing how their institutions work to better serve their students.
