Career Academies blend academic and technical instruction in a way that enhances the high school experience and prepares students for success in both college and careers. Yet such programs are not always accessible or welcome to all students.
This report examines career academies in seven Ford Next Generation Learning communities and summarizes key equity issues that the districts have encountered, strategies they are using to address inequities, and research-based approaches communities can consider to reduce disparities across different demographic groups. The authors provide ten strategies communities can adopt to promote both racial and gender equity in career academies through enrollment and school culture.
