Funding is a policy lever state leaders can use to drive quality in Career Technical Education (CTE). To understand how states currently are and can use funding to promote high-quality CTE, this report from ExcelinEd examines states’ current CTE funding structures and outlines five steps states can take to leverage the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) and maximize the impact of their CTE funding:
- Conduct and analysis of CTE funding;
- Focus on the value of a CTE course;
- Incentivize Outcomes;
- Address obstacles to value and equity; and
- Align CTE funding.
To illustrate the various ways states are funding CTE to drive quality, the report examines CTE funding in Arkansas, Indiana, North Carolina and Ohio, among other states.
