Over the past decade, most states have built State Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS) that match data from different sources about individuals over time, allowing stakeholders to see how combinations of courses and programs can help students access credentials, employment and higher earnings. However, there are still significant gaps in the data.
This infographic, produced by the Workforce Data Quality Campaign, in conjunction with the Postsecondary Data Collaborative and the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association (SHEEO), identifies different sources of postsecondary, workforce and employment data that are commonly available in SLDSs across the states. The infographic further shines a light on key sources of data that are commonly overlooked in such systems. It serves as a useful tool for states aiming to strengthen their state data collection efforts.
