National Health Science Standards and Framework – NCHSE

The National Health Science Standards, from the National Consortium for Health Science Education (NCHSE), provide a clear and consistent understanding of industry and postsecondary expectations for health science teachers and students. These content standards are broad and frame the essential knowledge common across all health professions. Utilizing input from business and industry experts, these standards are designed to prepare students to be college and career ready. These standards provide the foundation for health science curriculum design, instruction, and assessment, but they are not limited to the content listed in each of the eleven National Health Science Standards.

The National Consortium for Health Science Education designed this four-course curriculum framework, which serves as an example of various possibilities for secondary health science programs to help in the design of health science programs and facilitate postsecondary credit opportunities in health science courses such as Introduction to Healthcare and Basic Human Anatomy & Physiology. These courses may be delivered in order, in a different order, or independently. Each course has a corresponding certificate assessment.
