The Path Less Taken: Barriers to Providing Career and Technical Education at Community Colleges

Community colleges play a critical role in helping learners earn the certificates and credentials necessary to be successful in the workforce. Yet there are a number of barriers to delivering high-quality Career Technical Education (CTE) at community colleges, such as funding, accreditation and transfer policies, that limit the effectiveness of community college programs and hold learners back from achieving career success. This policy brief from the American Enterprise Institute explores common barriers to delivering high-quality CTE at community colleges and envisions a path forward for dismantling some of the most persistent barriers.
