In Singapore, foresight and intentional planning from government leadership helped drive the Southeast Asian city-state to make vocational education a keystone in its economic development strategy. The resulting state-wide system of vocational education and training borrows heavily from models in other countries. This report from the Center on International Education Benchmarking (CIEB) of the U.S.-based National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE) is one of several case studies that examines international approaches to vocational education and training (VET). This report examines the VET system in Singapore. After detailing the history of vocational education, the report describes the primary- to- postsecondary system as it exists in Singapore today and summarizes lessons learned.
