The Virtual Internship Toolkit is a resource designed help grow the number of high-quality virtual internship experiences for high school students by providing best practice-informed guidance that can support employers and school staff to develop programs more easily.
Developed for and with key organizations in Dallas, Texas, and with support of the New Skills ready network initiative, the toolkit draws on virtual internship programs used by Dallas employers as well as national best practices. While the Virtual Internship Toolkit is focused on “virtual” experiences, it is designed to also be beneficial for designing in-person and hybrid internship programs.
The toolkit includes checklists, practical tips and sample materials and identifies four key elements a virtual internship should incorporate:
- Meaningful projects;
- Welcoming community;
- Networking and mentorship; and
- Clear expectations and feedback.
