The passage of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) has drawn attention to who has access to and is able to participate in high-quality CTE programs of study. This report from the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) examines the characteristics of CTE students in Texas. Drawing on statewide administrative data housed in the Texas’ Educational Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin, the report found the following:
- CTE course taking is widespread;
- CTE is highly regional;
- There is limited tracking into CTE; and
- While there is limited tracking into CTE, there is evidence of tracking within CTE.
