ESSA School Quality and Student Success Indicators

Pennsylvania’s accountability system includes Career Readiness as a SQSS indicator, measuring three activities differentiated by grade level:

  • By the end of grade 5: The percentage of students who demonstrate engagement in career awareness and preparation via a career exploration and preparation program or curriculum (including https://www.pacareerzone.org/).
  • By the end of grade 8: The percentage of students who create an individualized career plan and participate in career preparation activities.
  • By the end of grade 11: The percentage of students who implement their individualized career plan through ongoing development of a career portfolio and participation in career preparation activities.

In addition to the career readiness indicators included in the state accountability system, the Future Ready Pennsylvania index, the state’s public facing report card, measures attainment of industry credentials, access to advanced coursework and postsecondary transitions.
