Director for Career and Technical Education

Cohort 1

Janelle Washington hails from a CTE field with multiple positions in the criminal justice system prior to pursuing a career in higher education and currently serves as a Director for Career and Technical Education at the Illinois Community College Board. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and master’s degrees in Public Administration and College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Illinois Springfield and Illinois State University, respectively.

Advancing Equitable Access to Career Technical Education Programing in Illinois Correctional Facilities

This project aims to advance equitable access to education opportunities for justice-involved adults within the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) (Perkins recipient). This project will analyze existing data, collect additional information through site visits, and utilize the Higher Education in Prison Key Performance Indicator Framework to make recommendations to improve programming and access to programming.

Advance CTE Fellows are gaining the skills and connections to pursue state leadership positions and advance high-quality, equitable state postsecondary CTE systems.
