Director of Communications & Membership 

Position Overview
The Director of Communications & Membership will oversee and provide leadership over the organization's internal and external membership engagement, professional learning and strategic communications. This individual will direct and lead technical assistance, resource development and related supports to Advance CTE members and partners to advance the organization’s strategic priorities and mission, build in-state capacity for CTE leadership, and raise the visibility of and support for high-quality and equitable CTE throughout the country. The ideal candidate will have at least 12-15 years of communications experience; seven or more years of experience working in a non-profit or membership organization; experience leading, managing and coaching others inclusively; excellent communication skills; be highly organized; have a strategic lens that elevates existing projects and identifies new solutions; and be a team player committed to getting results in a dynamic environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead membership strategies, including overseeing membership administration and professional learning, with an equity lens
  • Develop and lead internal and external communications strategies

Supervision Received:
The Director of Communications & Membership works under the direction of the Executive Director.

Supervision Exercised:
The Director of Communications & Membership will manage the Senior Associate for Digital Media, Senior Associate for Communications and State Engagement, and Senior Associate for Member Engagement & Professional Learning.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $130,000; salary depends on cost of living and relevant experience (new staff rarely start at top of range). Benefits include, but are not limited to, a casual work environment and no-cost health care for the employee; phased in benefits include a $155 per month transportation subsidy (for DC-based employees only), 9% contribution to 401(k) plan (no match required), and the week off between Christmas and New Year.

Location:
Advance CTE’s office is located in the Washington, D.C. metro area (Silver Spring, MD). The preference is for the Director of Communications and Membership to work out of the Advance CTE office as an in-office position with a flexible telework policy; however, for highly qualified candidates, we will consider a fully remote position filled by an employee located outside of the Washington, D.C. metro area.
