The adoption of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), or college- and career-ready standards more generally, by the majority of states across the country brought forth an opportunity to rethink the role of literacy and mathematics within CTE courses and pathways.
This report by Achieve provides guidance for state leaders aiming to integrate CTE and college- and career-ready standards. The report summarizes what states are currently doing, providing specific strategies from exemplar states and identifying common barriers and challenges that state leaders face. While implementation of the CCSS gives CTE educators an opportunity to contribute to a rich, meaningful and shared understanding of college and career readiness, those responsible for implementing CCSS should embrace collaboration with CTE educators to successfully prepare students for college, careers and life.
