As Congress revisits major education and workforce laws, a group of organizations led by Advance CTE has released five Education-to-Career Federal Data Policy Principles. These principles chart a path toward a more connected data system that makes the full journey from education into a career visible, connected, and well-resourced, considering the role of Career Technical Education (CTE), apprenticeships, noncredit programs, through to degree pathways and careers.
The principles identify opportunities for federal policy to strengthen cross-agency data governance; align definitions and reporting requirements; and support intermediaries that facilitate collaboration across education, workforce, and economic development systems. Together, these priorities aim to help states coordinate strategies, share actionable information, and make data-informed decisions while preserving each system’s distinct statutory authorities and accountability structures.
The following national partner organizations have signed on in support of the principles: the Association for Career and Technical Education, Data Quality Campaign, National Skills Coalition, Forum for Youth Investment, EdTrust, Results for America, College in High School Alliance, and Jobs for the Future. Their support reflects a shared commitment to strengthening education-to-career data systems and supporting better outcomes for learners and workers.
