State Strategies to Expand CTE Program Recruitment and Support for Learners with Disabilities

Back to Toolbox Series

Every learner deserves opportunities to explore, prepare for, and succeed in fulfilling, living-wage careers. Every learner is also unique — strategies to support one may not work for others. Career Technical Education (CTE) provides valuable experiences for learners with disabilities to discover and pursue careers that recognize and maximize their abilities.

However, to fully leverage these experiences requires intentional actions to connect knowledge and systems to  ensure this population has the full access and support to be aware of and succeed in these opportunities

This resource provides strategies and highlights real-life projects in Arkansas and Tennessee to build knowledge and expand opportunities for learners with disabilities to be recruited and succeed in CTE programs.

This resource shares insights that can assist:

  • All CTE leaders in aligning recruitment materials with the needs and aspirations of specific learner groups;
  • State CTE leaders in connecting agencies and initiative that support CTE and learners with disabilities;
  • Educators and local CTE leaders in assessing program quality and access for learners with disabilities; and
  • State and local CTE leaders in developing reciprocal professional development to intentionally connect knowledge and resources.
