Making Career Readiness Count: A 2025 Update

The world of work has changed dramatically since 2014, and in some ways, exponentially since 2020. In response, states across the country have continued to adapt their college and career readiness indicators and accountability systems. Career readiness is now a key component of learner success, with 43 states including at least one career-focused indicator in their state and federal accountability systems.

While progress is undeniable, questions remain about access, outcomes, and how accountability can drive meaningful change to benefit all learners. Making Career Readiness Count: A 2025 Update, 10 Years of Measuring What Matters examines nationwide federal and state accountability data from the last 10 years and provides insights on the evolution of career-focused indicators and the innovative ways states are using them in accountability systems.
